Wii Dust and Xbox360 Fail

Posted: April 18, 2010 in video games

The other night I was with some friends at Wal*Mart and decided to take some shots of the Wii and Xbox 360 game lockers. In this pic you see the piles of Wii boxes below and above that row after row of shovelware; to be clear, above those were Red Steel 2 and Tatsunoko vs Capcom, meager ‘core’ offerings compared to the Xbox 360 and PS3 lockers.

Forget the Wii, let’s look at the Xbox 360 and it’s awesome game selecti– ahhh, this is why I sold my Xbox 360 preemptively and bought a PS3 Slim.

To commemorate the day on which the PS3 Apocalypse took place.

I am thoroughly enjoying my playthrough of Mass Effect 2, and before that I was enjoying Dragon Age: Origins. White Knight Chronicles was recently released but I have no interest in it for it doesn’t break out of the jrpg mold in anyway, that and the review consensus is mostly negative. I look forward to FFXIII for my ps3 but I don’t expect great things out of that game for I’ve been keeping up with the reviews from the east and user reviews on the net. mhmm, I can remember a golden age of jrpgs not too long ago but they seem to be largely absent from the current gen. It could also be that they aren’t as heavily advertised for in this gen because there definitely are jrpgs out on multiplats.

What do I like in my rpg? Dialogue-trees, path options (be good or bad), character customization, assault rifles, and big worlds. Screw the swords/magic-only elements that have long dominated rpgs!

One more thing: Tali’Zorah nar Rayya ❤

Bye Bye Xbox 360

I sold my Xbox 360 after only a year of ownership and amassing a collection of 15 games. To Gamestop went my Xbox 360 and my 15 games were eBay’d. I loved my first HD console from day 1 and frequently played on it, but recently we’ve drifted apart for a few reasons. The RRoD which is endemic of the Xbox 360 console has an official rate of failure of 54% to which Microsoft responds that they have the ‘best warranty’ in the industry, unnerving indeed. A month or two ago my Xbox 360 began to exhibit dvd-rom drive errors, it would consistently fail to detect games loaded in the disc drive often times requiring a reboot to fix. Sony’s redesigned PS3 Slim caught my eye several months ago when it was still a burgeoning rumor floating on the internet. When it was released I decided I would eventually buy one for the superior quality, slim-form design, and the blu-ray drive.  Finally, the fact that the Mass Effect sequel would also be on the PC clinched my decision t0 sell. Bye bye Xbox 360!

PS3 Got!

Twas a lazy x-mas eve and x-mas day. I spent the better part of x-mas eve shopping around with my sister looking for a PS3 Slim. At the first stop we made I bought a football and The Hangover (blu-ray <3), at the second I bought my first new Playstation game Valkyria Chronicles. After a few more stops we had failed to find a PS3 Slim and returned home. So there we were with blu-ray content for a PS3 we didn’t even have yet. One call to a gamestop half an hour’s drive away later we finally had a PS3 and x-mas was welcomed with The Hangover.

Lastly, Valkyria Chronicles is pretty sweet, I made an excellent first pick for a game.
