This Week in: WTF is a Pantsu Bat?

Posted: July 31, 2010 in meh

Maybe, just maybe, you PB peeps have wondered and are genuinely curious to know just what a Pantsu Bat is, well, today’s the day I’ll tell you that in detail.

First you should know where Pantsu Bat (PB) even comes from: a game called Mackie Becca Bex. In college me and my roommate were project partners in a game design class and had to work on taking the concepts of game design and applying it to our own game creation. My roommate did the engine modification and coding while I did the artwork; BTW, the background music is a midi version of Savage Garden’s ‘Break Me, Shake Me’. It was a fun month or so of working on this video game project that saw many Domino’s pizza boxes pile up next to the trash and the recycling bin overflow with empty Coke cans.

So what’s the game about? Mackie Becca Bex (MBB) is a game set during the epic battle between heaven and hell where an angel named Lady Leigh is the protagonist and has to battle demonic creatures on earth as she returns to the heavens.

For those curious about seeing the game first-hand or playing it — for it’s relatively short at 10 minutes for skilled platformer players — you may click here to play it.

As you may have surmised Pantsu Bat is one of the demonic creatures that the player, Lady Leigh, must do battle with in order to reach the end. Pantsu Bat is floating pantsu that have sprouted bat-like wings, agitated eyebrows, and dotted eyes. The Pantsu Bat image you see me using on the site is not the original but rather an updated take on the original Pantsu Bat. To see the original Pantsu Bat either play the game for like 10 seconds to see one in action or if you can’t be bothered to play then just see one here:

Original ‘Pantsu Bat’

And while I’m at it, here are the other creatures from MBB:

The ‘Bun’

The ‘BunBun’ or ‘Bun II’

‘Rabid Viera’

The ‘Noddy Face’ or The ‘Ghost’

Lastly, the heroine and main protagonist herself:

‘Lady Leigh’

Now with all these creatures and the heroine presented the reader might wonder why Pantsu Bat received special attention and gained the sole favor and support of the author, well, to answer that all the other creatures must be addressed. There are 5 demonic creatures in Mackie Becca Bex, the original Pantsu Bat, the Bun, the BunBun, Rabid Viera, and Noddy Face — most of those are not original creations. Pantsu Bat itself was made up as a unique and original enemy during a brain storm session which involved watching anime and eating pizza. The Bun is a snow bunny that the author saw on the anime ‘Kanon’ (2006) and liked; subsequently, BunBun is simply an evolutionary take on the Bun and therefor not an original either. The Rabid Viera is a corruption of the Viera race seen in ‘Ivalice’ series of Final Fantasy games. The Noddy Face is simply an emoticon (see another) used in the Ragnarok universe and popularly on MSN/Windows Live Messenger. Lady Leigh, while not a demonic creature, is an original creation that went through a few revisions before turning up as what you see above or in-game. In the end it was between Lady Leigh and Pantsu Bat to receive special attention from the creators and well ‘Pantsu’ was just far more interesting.

So there you have it, and for the tl;dr crowd, basically Pantsu Bat is a character from my video game Mackie Becca Bex and I chose it as my online identity because it was my original idea and I liked it best.

This Week in: Sup, PB?

Posted: July 16, 2010 in meh

Sup again PB peeps,

You may have noticed a theme change took place sometime last week which was a bit random and went very much unannounced — up until now. Tbqh, I was bored and decided to experiment a little with new themes, to the more observant PB peep you may have noticed several theme changes before the current style was settled upon.

So after a week of trying a new theme on, what do you peeps think? Is the current style good as is or should PB revert to the old style?

The NewTheme vs The OldTheme

In any case, I would like to announce that PB’s twitter has gone public again after spending a month or so in private-mode. Either see the latest posts here on the site’s menu or visit PB’s twitter to become a PB stalker.

This Week in: PB Recommended Anime

Posted: July 16, 2010 in anime

Sup PB peeps,

I don’t feel like doing much of a post today for I have more pressing things to mind — RDR and Fire Emblem — so I’ll just recommend you some good summer anime watching. Tbqh, I didn’t have any picks that I liked from the onset of this summer anime 2010 season but after reading through some forums and previews on anime blogs I gave a couple of animes a shot — I liked every one of them.

Highschool of the Dead, Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi (i.e. ‘Ookami’ for short), Amagami, and the continuation of K-ON!! (i.e. season 2).

Now, I’ve written an episode 1 review for HotD and Ookami which you can read here and here (or scroll down this page~), but not one for Amagami for it’s a bit of a guilty pleasure which I do not wish to share my thoughts on as of yet. As for K-ON!! I did a review of the season when I was under the impression that it was only a 13 episodes long season, but it’s recently come to light it’s 26 episodes long so I may have to go back and update that post.

At a glimpse: It has zombies, blood spraying and blood fountains, it has makeshift weapons, it has schoolgirls, a plethora of cleavage and pantsu shots, the first episode features a snippet of John Murphy’s In a Heartbeat, a guy has to kill his best friend, a chick backstabs her BFF and throws her to the zombies, blackhawks are swooping overheard, the city’s in chaos, the soundtrack is epic, and the animation/style is awesome.

My opinion in a word: WATCH.

Boobs, pantsu, and zombies — Fuuuck Yeah!

What’s up in this first episode? Well, there’s the protagonist Takashi who’s hanging out by an outdoor staircase sulking when suddenly a zombie attack takes place at the main school gate. What follows is the typical ‘small incident’ which quickly escalates and overwhelms everyone in the vicinity and before you know it it’s complete pandemonium. Students are taking out other students in a vain effort to get ahead of the evacuees before the zombies get them too, but it doesn’t matter for they all pretty much get screwed in the end. Outnumbered, with no idea of where to go or what to do, they never stood a chance.

Where’s Sheva when you fucking need her?!

What’re the main peeps up to? Well, fortunately for the main cast of characters Takashi runs to his classroom after witnessing the incident and gets his friends out of there. Initially they try to make their way out of the main school building but a last-minute PA announcement thwarts that effort by setting off a panic to evacuate which has all sorts of students trying to GTFO. So Takashi and crew head up to the rooftop but before they can get there they get into an epic zombie battle with a former modern Japanese lit teacher, after that mess is said and done they finally reach the roof but find themselves witnesses to the chaos all around them.

We are so fucked.

Zonoes! Zombies all around me, what do? Quickly read over your handy Zombie Survival Guide and if that’s not available just get a bat and start cracking some heads while running for the nearest secluded area with food and water. But if that’s not your can of soda [Pantsu-Bat: PB hates tea.] then you should have been preemptive and joined a self-defense club so that you could fend off the zombies and elevate your chances of survival or you could have joined the track club…

Erm… it might be a little late for her to join the shotgun club~

Pantsu-Bat Bad-Update

Posted: July 6, 2010 in meh

Sup PB peeps,

I get online by tethering my Moto Droid to my computer and I update PB using my computer. Unfortunately, my cell service provider (Verizon) is now insisting I cut that out or pay them some more monies to continue tethering. Pfft, screw that!

What this means: Although my Moto Droid is very capable it can’t do long Anime/Tech posts so until further notice all posts will be short and pics will be less. Boo~

Update (July 7th): I just got my tethering capability back and PB is good to go again!

A romance-comedy anime about a cool female protagonist named Wolf and her adorable short sidekick named Apple together they fix the world’s problems one problem at a time. Oh, and there’s plenty DFC for all — check out the gallery at the bottom of this post!

OMFG, such adorable Neko Knuckles you have!!

Kitty nyaa~ up in yo FACEE!!

Alright, time for details: Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi (i.e. Ms. Wolf and the Seven Friends) is a shounen light novel by Masashi Okita that is now being animated by J.C. Staff and directed by Yoshiaki Iwasaki. This summer 2010 release just debuted its first episode and introduced us to most of the cast and what the series will be about. Ookami and Ringo are part of a school aid organization named Otogi Bank which will take on any student request or problem and resolve it for them — with the understanding that they’ll be epically loan-sharked for it later. So then there’s this shy/timid guy type named Ryoushi that suffers from scopophobia (i.e. unreasonable fear of being seen or stared at.) and is rendered debilitated when he’s the focus of someone’s gaze; after a bit of stalking he confesses his love to Ookami and joins the Otogi Bank to be near her — apparently, they need a stalker type for their organization’s activities. The series is parodying childhood fairytales and in this first episode they had a Cinderella theme going for the latter part of the episode.

[Pantsu-Bat: I have more pics but I just can’t get enough of these Neko Knuckles, where can I buy them?!]

I’ll definitely stick around to see what other latent abilities the other Otogi Bank members have, what other fairytales they’ll spoof, and to get me some more Neko Knuckles time <3!

The End of Angel Beats!

Perfect ending that ties up all the loose ends and should satisfy the viewer. For all you hold-outs I can safely say that there’s nothing to be wary about and to go ahead and take a head-first plunge into this beautiful anime series — 13 Episodes of Gold should make you happy! If you were looking for a last episode analysis then you’re not going to get one, this is a spoiler-free and minimal detail post; for an analysis of the anime series itself then look at my earlier post here. Now for my final Angel Beats! screenshots:

And then there were 4 — erm.. 5 (‘God’ is off-screen)!

Game over, man, game overrr ❤

[Pantsu-Bat: Aww damn it, I got something in my eye. — bbl, you guys.]
